Of the more than 2,000 fountains in Rome, there is one that stands out above the rest. The Trevi Fountain, one of the most famous landmarks in all of Rome, is especially beautiful at night. Dreamed up by architect Nicola Salvi and completed in 1762, with 24 spouts of cascading water, when it was originally finished, it was as functional as it was beautiful. This was the neighborhood’s water supply. Nowadays, it’s more fanciful than functional.
