What We Wore in Egypt

Hats and layers are your best friends.

What to wear in Egypt? Excellent question. Before our trip I couldn't find clear, practical advice, so I put together this short, straightforward guide to help others pack wisely for travel in Egypt.

Egypt is a tough place to pack for in some ways, but in other ways it’s quite easy. Below you’ll find pictures of all of the outfits my wife and I wore during our 10 days in Egypt for some inspiration.

Here are a few general guidelines to keep in mind when packing for Egypt:

  • There are few temperature fluctuations - it’s pretty much super hot all over, all year long. Layers are a good idea as long as they’re light. It will get slightly cooler in the evenings, but unless you’re heading out into the true desert area such as the Siwa Oasis, it won’t be very cold even at night.

  • It’s a very conservative country, which means covering knees and shoulders. That goes for men and women. When in doubt, pants and long sleeves are the move. Long sleeves and pants will also help to protect your skin from the sun. Women don’t need to cover their heads.

  • A hat is a must. It helps keep you cool, protects your face from the sun, and it doubles as a fan when you need it.

  • Sunglasses are a must.
