It’s with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to a Disney Legend this week.  Dame Angela Lansbury passed away peacefully at home at the age of 96.  She is noted as having one of the longest careers in the entertainment industry spanning over 80 active years with such credits as the voice of Mrs. Potts in the animated film The Beauty and the Beast; Miss Price in Bedknobs and Broomsticks and of course starring in Murder, She Wrote as Jessica Fletcher.  Our thoughts are with her family and loved ones at this time.

And unfortunately, though this isn’t a piece of Disney news, fans around the world said goodbye to another beloved actor from a story that touched millions.  Actor Robbie Coltrane, who played Rubeus Hagrid in the Harry Potter films passed away earlier this week at age 72. After news of his passing was shared, fans unofficially gathered at Universal Orlando’s Wizarding World raised their wands and umbrellas in his honour (as depicted in Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince). He will be very missed by so many.

We shared previously that the Disneyland Resort will be kicking off Disney 100 of Wonder Celebrations on January 27, 2022 and that passes and reservations were temporarily paused.  Well, they are now available for those who want to visit the Disneyland Resort during this time!  The Disneyland website currently shows available reservations for both parks through the month of January.

Fan favorite nighttime spectacular, “Fantasmic!” will return to Disney’s Hollywood Studios in November after a two year closure! The returning show will feature a new sequence and while no official details surrounding it have been released, there has been concept art circulating reflecting elements of Moana, Aladdin and Frozen!

Disneyland’s Matterhorn Bobsleds are officially open after a two month long refurbishment!  This attraction is a fan favorite that takes guests through the Swiss Alps on a six person bobsled, zooming in and out of caves avoiding the infamous Abominable Snowman! Guests do have to be 42” or taller to ride and those who are prone to motion sickness or are easily bothered by noise should note that there are some drops and loud noises.

The runDisney 2023 Princess Half Marathon Weekend is coming up soon in February 2023!  This race weekend takes inspiration from our favorite Disney princesses and each race focuses on a different princess as it’s theme. runDisney shared a first look at the finishers medals for this years event earlier this week!  While spots for the race weekend are filled, fans can still participate virtually at home with race options from 3.1 miles to 19.3 miles! Visit the runDisney website for more information!

Last month at D23 Expo 2022 it was announced that “Disney 100 Years of Wonder” will be the largest cross-company global celebration in the century long history of The Walt Disney Company!  Disneyland Resort will officially begin the festivities on January 27, 2023! Of course in true Disney fashion there will be special limited edition offerings and experiences throughout the year long celebration!

The Happiest Place on Earth will receive a platinum infused makeover with decor throughout the resort, dazzling new looks for Mickey, Minnie and friends, special edition merchandise and of course food and drink offerings! The original Sleeping Beauty Castle is going to be dressed for the occasion with platinum banners, bunting and a little shimmering pixie dust from The Good Fairies, two water fountains on either side of the moat and a glittering wishing star above the tower.

Guests will also get to experience TWO all-new nighttime spectaculars!  “World of Color - One” at Disney California Adventure park celebrates the storytelling legacy started by Walt Disney.  Showing how a single action can grow into a wave of change, it will bring many of your favorite characters to life in brand new ways.  At Disneyland Park, “Wondrous Journeys” will light up Main Street USA, Sleeping Beauty Castle, the facade of “its a small world” and Rivers of America with incredible projection effects. On select nights the show gets even bigger as fireworks light up the sky above the castle!

Mickey’s Toontown is scheduled to reopen after many months of refurbishment in spring 2023 but one attraction will open early!  Mickey and Minnie’s Runaway Railway will open on January 27 to kick off the Disney 100 celebration! Guests will also enjoy the return of the “Magic Happens” parade just in time for spring!  This parade showcases many of your favorite characters and showcases the incredible moments of magic at the heart of so many beloved Disney stories.  Additional news on the celebration will be shared soon so stay tuned!

Disney’s culinary team is full of some of the best chefs around and the Walt Disney World Resort is full of amazing dining!  So we’re excited to hear that two dining establishments at Disney’s Wilderness Lodge are getting some new additions to their menus!  Guests can enjoy delicious new appetizers at Territory Lounge including the Territory Popcorn Sampler, the Artisanal Cheese & Charcuterie, the Loaded Baked Potato Flatbread; the Salmon Run and more!

Beginning on October 11, Roaring Fork is debuting some mouthwatering new options as well!  Guests can indulge in new breakfast options including the Meat and Potatoes Quiche, the Vegetable Lover’s Quiche, the extra large Warm Grizzly Bear Claw and more!  Lunch and dinner also brings new dishes to the table including the Country Style Baked Meatloaf and the Barbecued Brisket and Burnt Ends!

A new baby springbok was born at Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge!  The calf was born near the end of September and was transported to Disney’s Animal Kingdom Theme Park last week to spend some time with animal care cast members to ensure that she was fed and cared for with the utmost attention!  Springbok’s are a species of antelope that can be found in the central and western parts of southern Africa.

October 1 marks the 40th anniversary of Epcot!  Since its opening in 1982 the park has given guests the chance to explore the future, experience cultures from around the world and learn more about our planet!  So to celebrate there will be special food and drink offerings on select days surrounding the anniversary!

Guests on the hunt for a sweet treat will love the Celebration Funnel Cake; Epcot 40th Liege Waffle at Connections Cafe; Figment Sponge Cake at Sunshine Seasons; or the Anniversary Flan at La Hacienda de San Angel and San Angel Inn!

Guests can also enjoy the Dan Dan Noodles at Nine Dragons Restaurant or Epcot 40th Kaisen Chirashi Don: Celebration Sushi Bowl at Tokyo Dining!  And don’t forget the festive drinks! Try the 40th Fiesta Margarita at Choza de Margarita or the Epcot 40th Saketini (A drink that was on the menu when the Japan Pavilion first opened!)

https://disneyparks.disney.go.com/blog/2022/09/foodie-guide-to-tasty-epcot-40th-anniversary-festivities/

As part of the ongoing refurbishments at Disney’s BoardWalk Inn, Dundry’s Sundries will be closing on October 3 to make way for a new coffee shop!  There will still be a merchandise shop available at the resort, Screen Door General Store, which should still have the same items available for guests.

https://wdwnt.com/2022/09/dundys-sundries-at-disneys-boardwalk-inn-to-close-permanently-october-3rd/

It appears that the Coca-Cola Store Rooftop Beverage Bar in Disney Springs has removed alcoholic beverages from their menu, at least temporarily.  A cast member was reported as saying “Coke just decided not to renew the liquor license” however no official statement appears to have been released.  The menu on Walt Disney World’s website still lists cocktails so it’s unclear if this is a permanent change or just a temporary lapse in offerings.

https://wdwnt.com/2022/09/coca-cola-store-rooftop-bar-not-serving-alcohol/

Over in Hong Kong Disneyland Elsa’s Ice Castle is starting to come together on the North Mountain!  Arendelle: The World of Frozen is expected to open in the second half of 2023 at Hong Kong Disneyland and will offer guests a chance to step into the beloved films Frozen and Frozen 2!

https://wdwnt.com/2022/09/elsas-ice-palace-materializing-on-the-north-mountain-in-hong-kong-disneyland-with-anna-and-elsas-castle/

Carol Stein, a long time cast member affectionately known as “The Piano Lady” will be retiring in November of this year.  She announced her retirement on her Facebook page and let guests know she will be returning to Epcot for her final performances in the American Adventure Rotunda and the Rose and Crown Pub.  She wrote a heartfelt message to the cast members and guests of Walt Disney World before signing off saying “Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! My heart is filled with pixie-dust and joyous tears.”

https://wdwnt.com/2022/09/carol-stein-the-piano-lady-returning-to-rose-crown-pub-before-retiring-from-walt-disney-world/

Refurbishments at both Disney’s Contemporary Resort and Disney’s Wilderness Lodge will begin this week and should be completed in November.  Guests staying at these resorts during this time can expect to see and hear some refurbishment noise but it shouldn’t be too disturbing to their stay.

https://wdwnt.com/2022/09/refurbishment-wilderness-lodge-contemporary-resort/

Die hard fans of Disneyland history will notice a change on Main Street USA!  In the window of Walt’s apartment above the fire station there is a lamp that stays on as a reminder of Walt’s constant presence in the park.  This lamp has been changed to a style that closer resembles the original lamp that Walt and Lillian kept in the apartment.  As the previous lamp was not the original Walt and Lillian had, this new one is no less significant and perhaps adds a touch more authenticity to the original decor of their Disneyland accommodations.

As part of the inclusivity efforts at Disney, the mural of Never Land at the Peter Pan meet and greet location in Walt Disney World’s Magic Kingdom has been updated.  The section of the map that previously was labelled “Indian Camp” has been replaced with “Never Land Tribe”.  This change is part of the ongoing Stories Matter initiative which addresses Disney’s past use of cultural stereotypes.  Other changes include the upcoming replacement of Splash Mountain with Tiana’s Bayou Adventure as well as the redesign of some culturally insensitive scenes in the Jungle Cruise attraction.

Disney legend Pat Carroll passed away at her home in Cape Cod, Massachusetts on July 30, 2022 at ages 95.  Carroll had a long career full of incredible roles and was an Emmy and Grammy award winning actress.  But Disney fans will always remember her as the voice of Ursula from Disney’s The Little Mermaid.  Our thoughts are with her loved ones and the fans around the world who loved her.

This new dining experience promises guests a new upscale menu with locally inspired dishes, cocktails and desserts. Guests will see decor paying homage to the ‘ama’ama fish (for which the restaurant is named) with elements like “light fixtures inspired by traditional Hawaiian fish baskets and…a central light fixture composed of fin like elements that swim above the entrance.” More details regarding menu and reservations will be released at a later date!

The Jungle Cruise at Disneyland appears to have been visited by Flora, the good fairy from Sleeping Beauty, because someone made the water pink! Well, while a little magic would be on brand for Disneyland, it appears that the water was tinted pink as part of a routine water treatment plan and the water dissipated after a few hours.  No guests rode the attraction during the treatment and it returned to normal operations the same day!
